160 + online file storage services – file fetish

Listable now has a list of some 160 + online file storage services. That’s a lot of files and a lot of competition in one small market. The trouble is that few people will trust their precious data to a small company which could go belly up next week, so these tiny services are probably doomed as soon as Google offers its own version for real.

DIY Voice Recognition Security System – who goes there?

If you’ve got a spare few minutes this weekend why not sit down and replicate the DIY Voice Recognition System project from Xiaowen Lu and Shihjia Lee. Of course you’ll need to know about the Nyquist Rate Theorem, Chebychev filters and the Fourier Transform, but apart from that it should be a piece of cake, eh?  The project has not met our expectations fully, as we initially specified that the system would be able to recognize a sentence as a password….

OpenArena – Open Source Quake Arena game

OpenArena is an Open Source re-packaging of the Quake Arena III FPS game. Proof once again that free software can be fun too, y’know.   OpenArena is an open-source content package for Quake III Arena licensed under the GPL, effectively creating a free stand-alone game. You do not need Quake III Arena to play this game. Bots were added starting in 0.6.0. They will spout taunts and everything! Concepts would be loose, so don’t expect a remake of Klesk in his original…
